2019 Performance Management Cycle

The purpose of this communication is to:

  • remind you to complete your performance reviews for 2018; and
  • provide information relevant to the completion of the 2019 performance contracts.

Performance reviews 2018

The process consists of the following steps:



  1. Ensure that the manager and the employee have copies of the correct 2018 Performance Contract.

To ensure that managers and employees refer to the same performance contract during the review.

  1. Determine a date, time and venue for the performance review.

To allow both parties adequate time to prepare and ensure that conversations can take place privately.

  1. Prepare for the performance review.

To ensure that a meaningful and comprehensive two-way conversation takes place.

  1. Engage in the performance review conversation.

To share views and reflect on the past year’s successes and challenges, knowledge gained and new ideas and plans for improvement and development.

  1. Ensure that the rating is captured on PeopleSoft.

For accurate record-keeping and an audit trail.

The due date for the submission of performance reviews is 15 February 2019.

Your performance will be evaluated using the new rating scale:

Remember that performance ratings are considered when approving bonus allocations, taking into account financial affordability.

Performance Agreements 2019

Performance contracting provides an opportunity at the beginning of the year to:

  • plan your work and set SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-bound) goals;
  • ensure a shared commitment to the UP 2025 strategic goals;
  • engage in conversations about what we expect from each other in terms of work output, support, tools, resources, etc; and
  • discuss career goals and development plans.

You may copy your 2018 performance agreement and make the changes required for 2019.
