The South African Cabinet recently reappointed University of Pretoria Professor Tinyiko Maluleke to the National Research Foundation (NRF) board. Currently, Prof Maluleke is a Fellow at the UP Centre for the Advancement of Scholarship. On his reappointment he said, “After serving as a member of the board for the past three years, I feel honoured to have been reappointed into a board tasked with oversight for the governance and compliance of one of the most important agencies in the national system of innovation.”

Prof Maluleke joined UP in 2014 as a Professor in Theology from the University of Johannesburg, where he was the Vice Principal. As an Executive member, Prof Maluleke was responsible for the Department of University Relations and was chairperson of UP’s Transformation Committee, where he played a key role in the conceptualisation of UP’s approach to transformation, also assisting in the development of the UP Africa Strategy. As a member of the Executive, he was an invited member of Council, Senate and all sub-committees of Senate and the Executive. Prof Maluleke also played a key role in brokering the partnership between UP and the Nelson Mandela Foundation, which culminated in the 2016 Nelson Mandela lecture delivered by Mr Bill Gates at our Mamelodi Campus.
