HR Tuks, the Human Resource Management student society, recently held their first human resources networking event, in collaboration with the South African Board for People Practices (SABPP), a human resources professional board, and the Human Resources Department at the University of Pretoria.
Six major recruitment companies, including Michael Page, PwC, AEL Mining Services, Human Capital Solutions, and The Technology Innovation Agency attended the event, along with over 40 human resources, industrial psychologist and labour relations students, from undergraduate to master’s level from the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences
The event started with interactive presentations, where entertaining and engaging speakers informed students of their experiences in the field, their roads to success, as well as providing advice for students’ future careers.
It ended with an innovative session of ‘Speed networking’ where students were afforded an opportunity to meet with people employed by the companies represented at the event.
This new initiative has allowed students to find out exactly what the human resources industry is like in the real world, and provided companies with a platform to market themselves in a fresh, exciting way, said Chairperson of HR Tuks, Frank Wilkinson.
‘It will no doubt be grown and developed in the years to come into an even more successful event, but for a first time event, these young students have set the bar high,’ he said.
