Invitation: The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Guest Lecture

Prof Stephanie Burton, Vice-Principal: Research and Postgraduate Education at the University
of Pretoria, in association with the UP Sustainable Development Goals Lecture Series, cordially
invites UP staff and postgraduate students to attend a guest lecture by Professor Howard Apsan
from The City University of New York, entitled:

Community and sustainability

Professor Howard Apsan is a senior executive, professor and consultant, and specialises in
environmental health and safety, risk management and sustainability. He is the Director of
Environmental, Health, Safety and Risk Management at The City University of New York, the
largest urban university system in the United States. He is also a professor in Public Affairs
at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, and teaches in Columbia’s
Sustainability Management Program. He has served on the United States Technical Advisory
Group (US TAG) for ISO 14000, the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM),
Environmental Committee (E-50) and the Environmental Commission in Springfield,
New Jersey. He is also a past chairman of the New York Chamber of Commerce, the
Environment and Energy Committee and the New York Chapter of the Environmental
Auditing Roundtable.
