Invitation: Lung function screenings

Posted on October 19, 2017

The UP Corporate Wellness Programme, presented in partnership with Bestmed Medical Scheme, is continuing its annual health screenings aimed at the early detection of health risks. Please note that only Bestmed members qualify for these free screenings.

Following the screenings in August to make people aware of the harms of smoking and the information session on asthma in October, the fourth screening will focus on lung function. A lung function test, also known as a pulmonary function test, is a non-invasive test that shows how well the lungs are working. It measures the amount and speed of the air you can blow out. The results of this test give an indication of the capacity of your lungs, the condition of your airways, how well your lungs are able to transfer oxygen and carbon dioxide to and from your bloodstream and the strength of your breathing muscles. The test is safe, has no side effects or risks and is used to ascertain the cause of breathing problems such as shortness of breath. The results are immediately available and participants don’t need to stop their current medication to take part in the test.

We would like to encourage you to make use of this service.

Date: 23–25 October 2017
Time: 09:00−15:00
Venue: EWP@UP, corner of Roper and Prospect Streets (Entrance 9), Hatfield Campus (opposite the Mirage aircraft)

A lung function screening with the spirometry device will take about three minutes and no appointment is necessary.
