Group nutrition interventions – Nutrition support group

Posted on October 05, 2017

The UP Corporate Wellness Programme, presented in partnership with the Bestmed Medical Scheme, will continue to organise the support of groups thereby contributing towards improving the health and wellbeing of all UP employees through education and stimulating activities that support positive lifestyle changes.

The group nutrition interventions that we will present are designed to encourage groups of participants to support each other in their quest for wellness, which is usually more effective than when people try to achieve such goals on their own. This initiative aims to help participants to make wise food choices that support healthy, easy-to-follow diets, increase motivation and empower employees to increase their energy levels by adopting a healthier lifestyle.

The second nutrition support group, namely the 'Let's Drink to Timely Weight Loss' will be introduced. The purpose of this group is to increase intake of water, thus reduce toxins in one's body, a healthy detox. The support groups will make it easier for individuals to motivate each other to lose weight and maintain a healthy body weight without relying on 'yo-yo-dieting' endeavours, and by avoiding sugar-containing drinks and substituting these drinks with water and consuming regular meals, individuals will be able to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight and feel good.

The session will focus on the impact of drinking a sufficient amount of water and its link to weight loss, the importance of choosing healthy drinks and beverages and ways to get yourself to drink water and provide you with a water bottle. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet like-minded individuals who wish to take part in this challenge.

The nutrition support group will be led by a Bestmed dietician and an attendance register will be kept. Please note that participation is voluntary.
