The UP Corporate Wellness Programme, presented in partnership with the Bestmed Medical Scheme, will continue to organise the support of groups thereby contributing towards improving the health and wellbeing of all UP employees through education and stimulating activities that support positive lifestyle changes.
The group nutrition interventions that we will present are designed to encourage groups of participants to support each other in their quest for wellness, which is usually more effective than when people try to achieve such goals on their own. This initiative aims to help participants to make wise food choices that support healthy, easy-to-follow diets, increase motivation and empower employees to increase their energy levels by adopting a healthier lifestyle.
The first nutrition support group, namely the 'Weight Loss Challenge' will be introduced. Being overweight or obese increases one's risk for many for non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, gallbladder disease, sleep apnoea, and certain cancers. The biggest challenge to managing your weight is keeping the weight off that you have lost, and staying motivated.
The support groups will make it easier for individuals to motivate each other to lose weight and maintain a healthy body weight. The session will cover ways on how to shop for healthy food items and will focus on the importance of changing habits and food choices. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet like-minded individuals who wish to take part in this challenge. Finally, you will receive an informative booklet that will help you to make better food and snack choices.
The nutrition support group will be led by a Bestmed dietician and an attendance register will be kept. Please note that participation is voluntary.
