The same year, he founded the Endocrine Research Laboratory to formally establish behavioural/wildlife endocrinology as a prospective research area at the university, which quickly developed into a solid platform for conducting basic and applied scientific research in the broad field of behavioural endocrinology, thereby establishing non-invasive tools for monitoring reproductive function and responses to stressors in captive and free-ranging animals. The lab is currently involved in over 20 research projects and collaborates with over 25 national and international scientific/conservation institutions. He became an Associated Professor in 2013 at the Department of Anatomy and Physiology, continuing his research in the field of behavioural/wildlife endocrinology. In 2014, he became Section head of Physiology and was appointed acting Head of the Department of Anatomy and Physiology in January 2016. He holds a C1-rating from the National Research Foundation and was vice chair of the International Society for Wildlife Endocrinology between 2012 and 2015.
