The University of Pretoria (UP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Tiaan de Jager as Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, with effect from 1 March 2017. He has been the Acting Dean of the Faculty since July 2016.
Professor De Jager currently holds the positions of Deputy Dean: Research and Postgraduate Studies, Professor: Environmental Health in the School of Health Systems and Public Health (SHSPH), and Director of the UP Institute for Sustainable Malaria Control. He is also an Extraordinary Lecturer in Andrology in the School of Medicine's Department of Urology.
Professor De Jager obtained his BSc, BSc Hons, and MSc in zoology at the University of the Free State before completing a PhD in Reproductive Biology: Urology at the University of Pretoria. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Université Laval in Quebec City, Canada, a Research Skills for Health Professionals programme at the University of Oxford and a Reproductive Toxicology Programme in Environmental Health and Safety at the University of Surrey in Guildford, UK.
Professor De Jager has a C1 rating from the National Research Foundation and has attained international recognition. He is currently involved in various research projects, including ones focusing on malaria, reproductive toxicology and environmental health.
We would like to congratulate Professor De Jager on his appointment and wish him well in his career as Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and member of the University's senior management team.
