Students who are not yet registered are advised to do so as soon as possible. Registration support services will continue at the UP Sports Campus until 17 February 2017.
The information below could be of use where students experience difficulties in this regard.
The registration and student administration desks, including financial aid and student accounts divisions, are currently situated at the UP Sports Campus and are available until 17 February 2017.
For your convenience, the park-and-ride service is available to transport students between the Hatfield Campus and the Sports Campus. Vehicles depart from the parking lot at the corner of Herold Street and Duxbury Road every 15 minutes.
Please take note of the important finance-related information:
NSFAS
New NSFAS applicants
(first-years and senior students who have applied for NSFAS for the first time)
Initial fee: Your initial fee has been waived if your status is 'provisionally funded'. You are able to register, subject to no other blocks.
Outstanding debt: First-time NSFAS applicants who are returning students and who have outstanding debt:
Returning NSFAS students who meet the NSFAS criteria
Initial fee: Your initial fee has been waived.
Go to Sports Campus to register, provided that you have no other blocks.
Outstanding debt: 2016 GPA > 50%
2016 GPA < 50%
All applications for NSFAS funding for 2017 are closed. If you have applied for NSFAS, sign into your MYNSFAS ACCOUNT to track the status of your application. All applicants must meet the NSFAS academic requirements. All queries must go to NSFAS direct, www.nsfas.org.za NSFAS funding is not automatic. NSFAS funding is not automatically renewable. NSFAS funding is not guaranteed. NSFAS allocations do not necessarily cover the full cost. The balance must be paid by the student. Please note: All registered students who are provisionally funded by NSFAS can receive a R3000 advance for books and, subject to submission of a lease agreement for accommodation, two months' rent. |
Students who are not on NSFAS
Bursary students
The initial payment is waived if proof of bursary is submitted. If you are unable to provide a promissory note from your bursary, you will need to pay the initial instalment before registration.
New first-years coming from schools in needy communities (quintile 1, 2 or 3 schools) who matriculated in 2016:
The initial payment is waived. If you have no other blocks, register online OR go to the Sports Campus to register.
'Missing middle'
The initial payment is waived for students who are eligible and who have submitted an application for the fee adjustment grant (see http://www.up.ac.za/en/fees-and-funding).
If you have not yet applied to be considered for the 'Missing Middle', apply online under http://www.up.ac.za/en/fees-and-funding.
All other students
Go to the Sports Campus and pay the initial instalment to register.
Outstanding debt: (i) pay the debt; OR
(ii) go to the Student Accounts Desk at the Sports Campus to make an acceptable arrangement* to pay off the debt before you can register.
*If a student has defaulted on a previous arrangement for the settlement of outstanding debt without renegotiating the terms, no further payment arrangements will be entered into.
