Invitation: Information session on breast health

Posted on October 17, 2016

The UP Corporate Wellness Programme, presented in partnership with Bestmed Medical Scheme, is pleased to inform you that we are continuing our monthly group intervention initiative during lunch breaks. The information sessions, which will be presented by a medical health professional, are aimed at educating staff on a variety of health-related topics and helping them to make voluntary behavioural changes that will reduce health risks and enhance their productivity and wellbeing. All UP employees should contribute towards building a healthier and more positive workforce.

The seventh information session about health problems will deal with breast health, an issue that concerns both men and women. The emphasis will be on early detection of changes in breast tissue, susceptible age groups, genetic factors, and well-known and lesser-known risk factors. We will highlight an integrative, solution-based approach based on principles of health coaching to manage changes, and share thoughts on trapped and unconscious emotional triggers. Treatment modalities available and screening with a view to early diagnosis will be discussed. Those who attend the session will gain a basic understanding of specific breast health problems that affect both men and women, and discover how to act preventively, what to look out for and be aware of.

By the end of the information session, persons who attended the session should:

  • have a basic understanding of breast health issues that affect both men and women;
  • grasp the importance of different screening procedures;
  • have a basic understanding of the risk factors that are linked to diseases of this nature;
  • understand how the various components of a healthy lifestyle can impact on health; and
  • understand the relationship between lifestyle choices and breast health.
