On day three of the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Finals, South Africa played against Bangladesh at the SSC. South Africa won the toss and decided to bat first.
The South African batsmen looked good at the start of the innings but steadily lost their wickets throughout the rest to finish at 152/9 in 20 overs. Evan Jones (37 from 27) and Tony de Zorzi (37 from 27) were the top scorers.
The Bangladesh batsmen took to their task very well and kept scoring runs at a steady pace. The match was a nail-biter to the last ball, at which point Bangladesh needed two runs to win. They achieved this and won the match by one wicket. Vincent Moore (4-0-35-2), Lungi Ngidi (4-0-16-2) and Thomas Kaber (4-0-16-2) took two wickets each for South Africa.
Even though South Africa lost the match against Bangladesh, the team still finished at the top of the log in Group A and advanced to the semi-finals, which will take place on Saturday, 10 September 2016 in Galle. South Africa will play against the hosts, Sri Lanka, at 09:30 South African time.
