Professor Stella Nkomo, Deputy Dean for Research and Postgraduate Studies in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences at the University of Pretoria, has been awarded the 2016 CEO Lifetime Country Achievement Award for South Africa. The award recognises the leadership excellence of women in Southern African Development Community countries (SADC).
This prestigious award is given to a woman who has made an impact through business or in professions over the course of her career and who has turned her success and prowess into society's success. She has dedicated her whole life towards the betterment of her fellow human beings.
Prof Nkomo is one of two country winners for South Africa. She was lauded for her extraordinary leadership contributions to higher education in the country, particularly her special talent for developing young academics and training postgraduate students. Her reach was extended beyond South Africa's borders to the rest of the continent through her presidency of the Africa Academy of Management. She is also a finalist for the Continental Lifetime Achievement Awards that will be announced later this year.
