UP Campus Tours (UPCT) will soon be sporting newly branded gear while offering its professional tours on Campus, thanks to a sponsorship by Enterprises University of Pretoria (Enterprises UP).

UPCT is a student-oriented business venture situated on the Hatfield Campus that offers tours to University staff and students, visitors from other South African universities, international visitors, prospective students and their parents, school groups and the wider public. It also offers tours on open days and at first-year orientation to help prospective and new students find their way around campus.

'We hope the sponsorship supports the team in its duties,' says Mr Deon Herbst, CEO of Enterprises UP. 'They are ambassadors of the University and we salute them for the work they do.'

UPCT is run by the Heritage and Cultural Tourism honour's programme students at the Department of Historical and Heritage Studies. It is a vital, practical component of their degree course. UPCTs is led by Prof Karen Harris, Professor in the Department of Historical and Heritage Studies and Director of the University of Pretoria Archives, and Ms Charlene Herselman, a newly appointed member of the Department.

'Students gain invaluable experience and acquire a range of skills including primary research in the UP Archives, people skills, marketing, finances, management and actual tourist guiding while operating UPCT,' explains Harris. 'They provide an invaluable marketing service to the University and have been described as  young UP ambassadors, who impress academics and dignitaries from across the continent and abroad and encourage new enrolments at UP,' she adds.

It is UPCT's mission to share its passion and enthusiasm for the University with visitors, while informing them of the University's rich past and bright future.

'All of this would, however, not have been possible without the timeous intervention of Enterprises UP. Its insight into the potential of this entrepreneurial project has been on-going for over a decade,' concludes Prof Harris.
