In 2015, Tuks FM raised over R300 000's worth of goods and cash, which were donated to various organisations in Tshwane and to needy students at the University of Pretoria (UP) through the Student Nutrition and Progress Programme (SNAPP). This year, the focus of the drive will be on providing for students in need at the University of Pretoria.
Tuks FM has teamed up with the UP's Student Representative Council (SRC) to ensure that students' specific needs are addressed during the upcoming winter months. Tuks FM will be contributing the donations it collects to the SRC's R10 Million Game, the SRC's Study Aid initiative, SNAPP and other organisations under the Department of Student Affairs that cater for students' needs.
Tuks FM station manager, Dewald Noel van Niekerk, said that the station wants to focus on the needs of its own community. He added: 'We hope that the campaign's past success will continue as we focus on making a difference for our students this winter.'
Collection targets have been placed on Tuks FM's website. Contributors can track the progress of the project online and check in to see which goods students need urgently. Tuks FM has also compiled a goals list for UP societies, departments and small external businesses. As an incentive to local businesses and UP societies, Tuks FM offers free on-air exposure to those who deliver the goods on the list to Tuks FM before 27 May 2016.
All goods may be dropped off at the Tuks FM studios on week days between 08:00 and 16:00. For more information on Woolly Winter 2016, and for a list of items the station hopes to collect for students, visit tuksfm.co.za or email [email protected].
