Invitation: Information session on Arthritis

Posted on April 19, 2016

The UP Corporate Wellness Programme, presented in partnership with Bestmed Medical Scheme, is pleased to inform you that we will continue with the monthly group intervention initiative during lunch breaks. A Bestmed medical health professional will do the presentations. These information sessions are aimed at educating staff on a variety of health-related topics and helping them to make voluntary behavioural changes that will reduce health risks and enhance their productivity and well-being. All UP employees should contribute towards building a healthier and more positive workforce.

The second disease information session will deal with arthritis and the spectrum of causes, as well as the signs and symptoms of this condition will be discussed. Factors that play a role in the development of arthritis will be highlighted. Lifestyle measures that can prevent the onset of certain types of arthritis and lifestyle factors that have the potential to impact on or modify the symptoms and severity of the condition will also be discussed. The information session will give attendees a thorough understanding of arthritis and explain to them how wise lifestyle choices and general wellness can alleviate the condition.

By the end of the information session, the audience should:

  • have a basic understanding of joint mechanics and the impact of arthritis;
  • know the various causes of arthritis and the symptoms associated with this condition; and
  • understand the relationship between lifestyle choices and arthritis.
