Winter Mini-Olympics 2016

Posted on April 18, 2016

Dear colleagues

Many people complain about unwanted weight-gain during winter, but winter could be the ideal time to change entrenched habits and to focus on healthy eating, getting fit and enjoying the mellow winter sun.

On 11 May 2016 you can lay the foundation for your personal wellness goals. Yes, you have guessed it! It's Mini-Olympics time! This year we are celebrating the advent of winter by embarking on a new adventure towards improved wellness and healthy living. Why don't you join us?

We are hosting the Mini-Olympics at the Groenkloof Campus, known for its beautiful green fields, and we invite you to join in the fun. Hurry up and ensure you are registered in time. We have a limited number of places available and can only accommodate 500 participants. We encourage you to join in the fun by registering for one of the five sports activities.

Our Mini-Olympics activities are designed for people of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels. So, join us and get rid of unhealthy habits. This year, teams can participate in a wider range of sports activities, namely soccer, volleyball, relay races and the latest addition: touch rugby. Don't be intimidated! Everyone is welcome to join in the fun. There will also be exercise specialists on hand to give advice and assistance regarding your health and exercise needs.

But wait … There is more!

Be on the lookout for our Boot Camp to warm up and stretch those wonderful muscles before you take part in your sports activity. If you simply want to enjoy great exercises, Boot Camp is for you. The warmer the muscles, the more effective the exercise! This is a fun way to get you up and going.

Participants can look forward to different stalls with life-changing information on exercise, health, nutrition and stress management to refresh body, soul and mind. Make sure you visit the nutrition stall. You will have lots of fun competing against others to create the most interesting, appetising and extraordinary lunch box meal. Hurry up as only a limited number of entries can be accommodated.

Following the success of and positive feedback on previous Mini-Olympic events, you should not miss out on the laughter, fun, enjoyment and popcorn as well as the smoothie bike. So, come and have a look – you won't be disappointed!

Take your creativity to the next level and dress your team in outfits that stand out from the rest. The best dressed team with the most team spirit will walk away with a fantastic prize!

Register online by means of the PeopleSoft HCM system on the UP Portal from 18 April 2016. We have a limited number of places available and entries close on 6 May 2016. Join an existing team or create a new one. Get more details from your faculty or departmental wellness champion.

Kindly note that staff members who do not register to participate will have a normal working day at the office. Remember to accept the indemnity clause on the application form to ensure your participation in the day's proceedings.

Transport to the Groenkloof Campus will be available from both the Hatfield Campus and the Prinshof Campus. A bus shuttle service will depart from the Hatfield Campus, on the corner of Duxbury and Herholdt street, at 11:00 and then at 30 minute intervals to take participants to the Groenkloof Campus. Only one bus will depart from the Prinshof Campus, in front of the HW Snyman Building at 11:00.
