Seminar: Peace building experiences from the field in Kenya: The work of the Children Peace Initiative Kenya

Posted on April 08, 2016

The Departments of Political Sciences and Social Work and Criminology invite you to a seminar on the topic: Peace building experiences from the field in Kenya: The work of the Children Peace Initiative Kenya, presented by Monicah Wanjiku and Hillary Bukuna.

There is a wide range of actors engaged in Africa’s peace building terrain who do not resemble state-based actors and institutions, yet they provide invaluable support to promote the security of ordinary people. The Children Peace Initiative Kenya (CPI Kenya) provides an excellent example of grassroots level peace building efforts in societies previously embroiled in violent conflict. The initiative speaks to the need for the development of indigenous conflict resolution mechanisms and processes to promote peace making and peace building, also involving children and youth. The speakers will share their experience and insights with a view to strengthening and promoting research and action in the field of community-based peace and security efforts.

Date: Friday 15 April 2016

Venue: SRC Chambers, UP Conference Centre, Hatfield Campus, University of Pretoria

Time: 10:00 to 12:00 followed by refreshments

This seminar is presented as an initiative of the Mellon-funded Faculty Research Theme on Peace and Conflict in Africa.
