Invitation: Information session on diabetes

Posted on March 11, 2016

The organisers of the UP Corporate Wellness Programme are pleased to announce a new group intervention initiative, which will be presented by a Bestmed medical practitioner during lunch breaks once a month, from March to October 2016, to educate staff on a variety of health-related topics and assist them in making voluntary behavioural changes that will reduce health risks and enhance their individual productivity and well-being. All UP employees should contribute towards building a healthier and more positive workforce and therefore your attendance is important.

The first Health and Wellness talk will deal with diabetes. Owing to the present-day lifestyle, increasing numbers of people are developing diabetes. We encourage you to attend this session as the information that will be shared could have a positive impact on your lifestyle and well-being. The benefits of a wellness programme for people with diabetes will be highlighted and an overview provided of some of the clinical aspects of diabetes, the role of sugar and insulin, and how diabetes control is measured.

By the end of the talk, the audience should:

  • understand the relationship between insulin and sugar;
  • know how diabetes control is measured; and
  • grasp the importance of preventive care and wellness in diabetics.

Date: Friday, 18 March 2016
