Posted on February 08, 2016

Tanya van Lill, Director of Academic Programmes at the University of Pretoria (UP)’s Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), was recently appointed to serve on the board of trustees of the Executive Master of Business Administration Council (EMBAC) from January 2016.

EMBAC, is an academic association that represents the global voice of the Executive MBA industry, and aims to advance the cause of Executive MBA programmes by serving as a facilitator of best practice sharing and knowledge dissemination, and fostering a community of high-quality programmes. The association plays a thought leadership role by engaging in research that offers insights, by generating or packaging relevant content of importance and interest to the membership and industry, and by advocating for the industry.

Van Lill, who is responsible for the delivery of GIBS’ flagship MBA, as well as its postgraduate and diploma programmes, will participate in the global council’s education and training, networking and advocacy efforts.

Prof Nicola Kleyn, Dean of GIBS says: ‘Tanya’s appointment is a substantial achievement for the School and the continent. The exposure to new trends, research and the creation of new partnerships will enhance our MBA as well as our other academic offerings.’

At the end of 2015, GIBS was once again the top South African and African business school in the UK Financial Times Executive MBA Ranking 2015. This annual ranking, which is in its fifteenth year, measures the top 100 Executive MBA programmes globally. According to the latest ranking, the GIBS modular and part-time MBA formats feature in the 87th place worldwide. It is also worth noting that the latest rankings saw the school placed in joint first position in terms of the number of women represented on its board, and in 13th position globally for its female to male student ratio.
