Update on student protest action at UP and its impact on the academic programme

Posted on October 24, 2015

Dear UP staff members,

You are aware that academic activity at the University was suspended on Wednesday 21 October, and that the University was subsequently closed.

We will re-open on Monday morning, 26 October 2015. The Monday time-table will apply.  There will be no tests on 26 and 27 October 2015.

These events have impacted on the academic programme and I would like to express my sincere appreciation for your understanding of the situation.

The activities of the past few days mean that certain sacrifices will have to be made in order to resume and catch up with the academic programme. Lectures, assignment submission, tests, examinations and other academic activities that have been affected will have to be rescheduled. We have made a public undertaking that no student will be disadvantaged academically by the changes to the programme.

We are consulting with the deans at present to strategise on how best to adjust the academic programme with a view to meeting the year’s objectives, and will communicate the revised plan to you shortly. Please consult with your heads of department and/or dean for further particulars.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support in the matter.
