Posted on October 12, 2015

The JuniorTukkie Office at the University of Pretoria presented its seventh Grade 12 Preparation Conference this year. On Saturday, 3 October 2015, 185 excited Grade 12 learners arrived at the Hatfield Campus to register for the Grade 12 Preparation Conference.  This project is an initiative of the JuniorTukkie Office and its aim is to prepare learners for their final school year end-examination as well as for their tertiary studies. This Conference is supported by Investec.

JuniorTukkies, currently in Grade 12, with an Admission Point Score (APS) of 38 or higher who are provisionally admitted for studies at the University of Pretoria in 2016, were invited to apply for attendance of the JuniorTukkie Grade 12 Preparation Conference from 3 to 7 October 2015.

The Conference programme covered a broad range of Grade 12 and tertiary topics, as well as exciting physical activities such as:

  • creativity workshops;
  • teambuilding activities;
  • visits to the faculties where learners were given the opportunity to ask faculty-specific questions;
  • matric enrichment sessions in Mathematics, Physical Science and Accounting;
  • information on awards, bursaries, loans, residence placement, security on campuses, student affairs and student financial readiness;
  • a motivational speech entitled “Inspired leaders for the future”;
  • a combined Gautrain excursion and visit to Investec
  • a movie night;
  • a presentation on time management;
  • an African drum playing session;
  • a visit to the Hans Merensky Library on the Hatfield Campus; and
  • a campus fitness trail experience.

It was evident that the learners thoroughly enjoyed this very productive and memorable Conference and that they gained important knowledge and skills that will enable them to face future challenges as students, as well as in their personal lives.
