In commemoration of our rich cultural legacy, the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology at the University of Pretoria (UP) and the UP Cochlear Implant Unit (CIU), in collaboration with Steve Biko Academic Hospital, will join forces to present a variety of artists and musicians, as well as dancers from TUKS Dance, in a Heritage Day Concert. The event will take place from 13:30 to 16:30 on Sunday, 27 September on UP’s Hatfield Campus.
The event has even more significance since September has been declared national Deafness Awareness Month.
On the same day, an exhibition of exquisite art and crafts, presented in collaboration with UP Arts, will open at 12:00 in the Rautenbach Hall. On 28 September the exhibition will be moved to the Eduardo Villa Museum where it will be concluded with a wine tasting from 18:30 to 21:00 on Friday 2 October.
All art and crafts, as well as snacks and memorabilia, will be for sale.
All proceeds from the event will be used to fund life-changing medical interventions: cochlear implants for hearing impaired persons and corneal transplants for visually impaired persons living in South Africa.
Tickets for the concert can be bought online from Ticketpro and from all PostNet, Edgars and Jet Stores outlets nationwide.
