PROCEDURE FOR MEDICAL EMERGENCIES ON UP CAMPUSES

Posted on July 28, 2015

Dear Colleagues and Students

All medical emergencies must be reported to the Department of Security Services’ 24-Hour Operational Management Centre at 012 420 2310/2760 or to UP’s Operational Manager at 083 654 0476.

When calling the 24-Hour Operational Management Centre or the UP Operational Manager please provide the following information:

  • Your name and telephone number,
  • a brief description of the medical emergency, and
  • the address or location of the medical emergency.

The 24-Hour Operational Management Centre will in turn activate the emergency medical service provider.

UP has an agreement in terms of which International Medical Services (IMS) is to act as medical service provider for medical emergencies on all UP campuses.

All students, staff members, contractors and visitors will be assisted by IMS in the event of a medical emergency on any of the University’s campuses.

Services rendered by IMS include the following:

  • Rapid response vehicle and/or ambulance,
  • on-scene stabilisation, and
  • road transportation to closest and/or most appropriate medical facility.
