Nothing can stop Akani Simbine!

Posted on July 09, 2015

TuksSport is extremely proud to announce that we have a World Student Games champion!

Akani Simbine won the 100 m in a time of 9,97 seconds, equalling the SA record of his fellow Tuks athlete, Henricho Bruintjies. With this time and his time in the semi-final, he broke the World Student Games record and earned Team SA their first medal.

This young man continues to #EarnHisStripe over and over again. Last week he became the 103rd person ever to run 100 m in under ten seconds and the first South African to do so outside SA. His time of 9,99 seconds was just 0,01 seconds slower than the SA record (which he has now broken).

Before he left for his recent competitions in Europe and the World Student Games Simbine said: ‘When I started competing I decided to focus on running the perfect race, rather than on speed. I reckoned that if I managed to run the perfect race, running it in under ten seconds would happen automatically.’ It is great to see the maturity of this young man. We can all learn a lot from him.

It’s Tuks of Niks ... all the way!
