The Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof Cheryl de la Rey and the Department of Political Sciences invite you to a panel discussion on the topic The Role of Women in Peacebuilding.
This panel discussion takes place on the margins of the 25th Summit of the African Union and is organised in the context of the Year of Women Empowerment and Development towards Africa’s Agenda 2063. It draws on UN Security Council Resolution 1325, focusing on Prevention, Protection and Participation.
Panellists include Mme Bineta Diop, Special Envoy on Women, Peace and Security of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, HE Mme Zeinab Bangura, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General on Sexual Violence in Conflict, the Rt Hon William Hague, former UK minister of foreign affairs and Prof Sandy Africa, Director of the Institute for Strategic and Political Affairs, University of Pretoria.
