The University of Pretoria would like to express its condolences with the loved ones of André P Brink following his sudden death. 

André P Brink excelled as a writer in Afrikaans and English and was, as a prominent member of the Afrikaans Sestiger-movement part of a creative renewal in the Afrikaans literature that is still felt today. His contribution as academic, critic, translator, anthologist and political activist was huge and it was for this contribution that the University of Pretoria awarded him an honorary doctorate in 2003. André P Brink leaves a treasure of literary works behind that future generations will no doubt cherish as a prized cultural heritage.
