These were some of the figures released on 10 September 2013 when the annual QS World University Rankings were released just after midnight GMT. The QS rankings compare the world’s top institutions across a range of areas, including those that are of interest to prospective students.
Overall, UP was ranked somewhere between positions 471 and 480 in the world for 2013/2014, which is at least 20 positions higher than its previous ranking in 2012, when it was rated between positions 501 and 550.
‘We are proud that our hard work in pursuit of our long-term strategy, UP 2025, is bearing fruit,’ said Prof Cheryl de la Rey, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of UP.
In addition to the results of the overall university rankings, results were also published in respect of five broad subject areas. The University was ranked in position 292 in the field of arts and humanities, and in position 270 in the field of social sciences and management.
