Evaluation of earth gravity field models used for precise satellite orbit determination through applications of satellite laser ranging data’ under the supervision of Prof Ludwig Combrinck, who is not only an extraordinary professor in the Department of Geography, Geoinformatics and Meteorology (GGM), but also Associate Director: Space Geodesy at HartRAO.
Dr Joel Botai, a senior lecturer in the Department of GGM, also holds two previous master’s degrees in space engineering and in astrophysics. He was recently appointed to the Special Committee of Experts in the National Space Science programme of the South African National Space Agency (SANSA), and is currently working on an ambitious initiative to establish a strong national space science discipline in the Department of GGM.
With two doctoral degrees, there is no doubt that the Botai family will be in a strong position to make a significant contribution to the future advancement of space sciences at UP and in South Africa.
