For new / young researchers the first week will focus on an Introduction to Biostatistics as well as an introductory course in using STATA 11 software. For more advanced researchers or people with a basic training in biostatistics there will be a course on Survival analysis using STATA in the second week. There will also be a two-day course offered as an introduction to using Stata for the preparation of graphics. The summer school offers you an opportunity to do a workshop in your field of interest or specialisation by offering 4 separate workshops or an option to do all workshops.
3 - 4 October 2011 8:30-16:00 daily
This will be an introductory course aimed at new researchers and clinicians involved in biomedical research.
Presenters: Prof. Paul Rheeder (Head of Division of Clinical Epidemiology and the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Track at the SHSPH), Ms. Loveness Dzikiti (Biostatistician, SHSPH). Course Fee: R2 800 (includes tuition and assessment as well as refreshments)
5 – 7 October 2011 8:00 - 16:00 daily
This will be a STATA 11 introductory course (with computer practicals). The course will cover data entry and importing, data manipulation, statistical tests (parametric and non parametric), and an introduction to regression commands (linear, logistic, Poisson and Cox proportional hazards).
