Each child had the opportunity to stroke Byron, a moment that will stay with them for a very long time. “The best part of this experience is that every child will tell their parents and friends about the day, thereby becoming an ambassador of wildlife conservation.” said Irene Schoeman from Sci-Enza.

The message of conservation was further investigated in a biodiversity discovery activity. Learners carefully observed and counted all the living organisms found within a one square meter of the Mamelodi campus of the University of Pretoria.

The day ended with learners painting conservation posters about what they learned during the day that they can use to pass on the message of biodiversity conservation.
