As Venue Medical Officers they oversee and coordinate all the medical services at the respective venues during match days. They are also in charge of any medical service that is required for the national teams that will be based in Pretoria and Nelspruit at the time of the tournaments.

Dr Janse van Rensburg is head of the Section Sports Medicine and has been appointed as the Venue Medical Officer of the Loftus Versveld Stadium for the Confederations Cup and the World Cup.

“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and it is our desire to show to the world the level of excellence South Africa is capable of. It is an honour to be part of such a historical event,” she said.

Dr Ramagole is a senior lecturer at the Section Sports Medicine. She is the Venue Medical Officer at Bombela Stadium (Nelspruit) for the World Cup. She will assist Dr Van Rensburg at Loftus Versveld Stadium during this year’s Confederations Cup.

“It’s an honour to serve the country in this way and to be part of such a world class event where we can learn from one another. The Confederations Cup will give us the opportunity to learn from any mistakes and thereby present an excellent World Cup event,” she said.

Miss Tsomele has been appointed as masseur at Loftus’ Referees Medical Centre.

Professor Thanyani Mariba – Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences – said that his faculty was greatly honoured to have its staff members selected to form part of the FIFA Confederations Cup medical team.

“It’s not often that such an opportunity to market our University's expertise avails itself. Congratulations to selected staff members,” he said.
