The Department of Visual Arts showcases alumni as part of UP's centenary celebrations

The Fine Arts exhibition, Visuality / commentary, runs until 21 May in the Rauthenbach Hall, Architecture Gallery, Villa Museum and South Campus. This component of the Department’s exhibitions focuses on artworks by more than 80 artists who have been associated with the Department of Visual Arts since 1955. These include people such as Angus Taylor, Anton Karstel, Daniel Mosako, Marlise Keith, Hanneke Benade, Johan Thom, Diek Grobler, Minnette Vári, Walter Meyer, Guy du Toit, Keith Dietrich, John Clarke, Collen Maswanganyi and Diane Victor.

Great names in the design world who are showcased in the design exhibition, X-ings: shaping culture through design, include Albertus Quartus Swanepoel, top New York hat designer, internationally acclaimed production designers for film and stage, Johan Engels and Birrie le Roux, the doyenne of the pewter collectable, Carrol Boyes and icons in the magazine design and advertising fields such as Sumien Brink, Anton Sassenberg and Francois de Villiers. These are just some of the approximately 107 designers who are participating and who have made a significant difference to the design landscape, both locally and abroad. The design exhibition is on view in the Visual Arts Building until 24 May.
