TuksCricket reaches out

Posted on May 20, 2009

Recently the Tuks boys set up a coaching clinic in Mamelodi as part of their outreach program. It is important that the boys learn to give back to the game what they are getting out of it and at the same time realize what a great opportunity they have to improve their cricket at an institution such as the Tuks Academy.

When we arrived there, we could see the excitement in the youngsters faces as they waited for us with baited breath for instructions on where to be and what to do. Exercises such as fielding, hand-eye co-ordination skills, bowling and batting stations were set up. Once things were underway, all you could here was the sound of leather on willow, followed closely by cheers and laughter as the boys thoroughly enjoyed every minute spent out in the sun.

A big thanks has to go out to our Academy cricketers who made the day worthwhile for every kid involved at the clinic. Thanks to Johnny Nkuna, and James Mokonyane for putting the clinic together from Mamelodi Cricket Club side, and for the use of their facilities. It has been agreed upon for the future to make trips like these a regular occurrence, as the two clubs have developed a good relationship and has coaching cricket to youngsters as a cornerstone in their respective missions as clubs. A great day was held by all and we hope to be back sooner rather than later.
