A great day's racing at the SA Marathon Champs on the Keurbooms River outside Plettenburg Bay on Saterday 27 June, saw Shaun fight off probably the toughest field ever in SA marathon history to win the singles title. The end sprint was contested by three past world marathon champions with Shaun taking the line honours a nose clear of second placed Len Jenkins and third placed Hank McGregor with Ant Stott in fourth.
On Sunday 28 June, Shaun Rubenstein won the SA marathon champs' men's K2 with his partner Ant Stott the weekend, finishing ahead of Grant van der Walt and Hank McGregor in a sprint finish at Keurbooms River. Racing in overcast and initially rainy conditions Shaun and Ant maintained control of the race that quickly became a battle between the two crews - each of the four paddlers a past World Champion in a respective category!
The weekend's racing sees Shaun undefeated in all his races at both the SA Sprint Championships (earlier this year) and the SA Marathon Championships of 2009 - a really wonderful achievement!
