TuksGolf going 'home'

Posted on September 02, 2009

Such is the prestige of this tournament, that only by invitation are you able to compete against the best of Universities of Europe and America. In 2008 Jacques Van Tonder was invited to play on the course where golf was invented and which is called the home golf. In 2009 it was the turn of 20 year-old Francois Coetzee and Christo Harms to be allowed to play on the almost sacred grounds.

Francois missed out on progressing beyond the qualification round by 1 stroke, whilst Christo finished 11th overall, quite a performance. Hailing from Tzaneen, Christo’s rise has been almost meteoric. After 8 months of being on the TuksGolf Academy programme he won the Lowveld Open in Mpumalanga and also forms part of the recently selected Mpumalanga Interprovincial Mens Team.

Even more impressive is that his first international trip saw him just outside the top 10, his success being built on the 2 under par 70 he scored in the first round.
