This competition, presented for the second time by the Justice Resource Centre (JRC) in partnership with the City Hall of The Hague, provides the participants with a remarkable opportunity to engage in civic education, increase their knowledge of the application of the law, explore the possibility of a legal career and gain insight to international relations.  International teams will participate in multiple-elimination rounds at Leiden University from 19 January, with two international teams mooting it out in the final round at the Peace Palace under the scrutiny of prominent presiding judges from the International Criminal Court (ICC) and International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICYT) on 24 January 2014.

Competing teams, including the USA, The Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Venezuela and Argentina, will focus on a “Blood Diamonds” case study based on the ICC rules and laws.

The two “all star” teams  representing South Africa are Danielle Dallas and Olivia Habonimana (Immaculata High School), Thabisile Bertha Mahatlane (Mahonisi Learning), Samuel Musker (Redhill High School), Matshidiso Reinetha Legalamitlwa (Tiger Kloof School Combined), Malefu Mokone (Harrismith Secondary School) and Ntokozo Magubane (Drakensberg Comprehensive School), Palesa Ramanamane (Eunice High School), Anri Erasmus (Grens High School), Savannah Stutchbury (Springfield Convent), Simphiwe Ntlhabati (Tiger Kloof Combined School), Tharin Pillay and Caton Schutte (Crawford College La Lucia).
