It is July again and time for Pretoria’s winter-warmer festival! With more than 40 different performances, ranging from cabaret, physical theatre, comedy and drama to short films, those who attend will be able to enjoy new, original works by up and coming writers, directors and performers. This year’s line-up includes productions from University of Pretoria, Tshwane University of Technology, PALI, as well as performances from established artists. The Drama department’s 2011 Standard Bank Ovation Award winning production As Night Falls (choreographed by Nicola Haskins) as well as the Drama department’s student festival production for Grahamstown, Ororo (directed by Nico Scheepers) form part of the programme.
The performances will take place in the Masker, Lier and Chapel theatres on the Hatfield Campus of the University of Pretoria. Tickets cost only R10-00 per performance. They can be purchased at the Bok 45 minutes before each show begins. The festival’s official “Kuierplek”, the Bok, offers exciting activities each night and a little something to quench the thirst!
Krêkvars promotes integration with real-time, real-life entrepreneurial activities to allow students and other artists an opportunity to absorb the change-over to an economically active professional environment with greater ease. The festival is created, organised and managed by students and ties in with various aspects of the Drama department’s programme.
“Krêkvars is an opportunity to celebrate students’ creativity and innovation. It is a space where they can let their imaginations run free, interrogate issues relevant to their lives and create modes of performance that support their creative visions. If you want to be entertained, disturbed and enthralled, Krêkvars is the type of festival that you will want to attend” said Prof Marié-Heleen Coetzee, head of the University’s Drama Department.
COLD NIGHTS, HOT ENTERTAINMENT!
