Most valuable exhibition ever hosted on campus

Posted on June 13, 2008

Against the background of UP's centenary, Mr Wapnick has agreed to make this priceless collection available for exhibition on the UP main campus. This kind gesture is a particular honour for UP since this will be the first time this collection is made accessible for public viewing.

The exhibition will undoubtedly be the most valuable exhibition ever hosted on campus. Paintings of South Africa’s pioneering artists, such as Pierneef, Erich Mayer, Pieter Wenning, Frans Oerder and Walter Battiss, are represented in the collection.

The opening of the exhibition, A view on Pretoria – from the collection of Alec Wapnick will take place on Tuesday 17 June 2008 at 19:00 in the Rautenbach Hall on the main campus. Mr Stephan Welz, a well-known and respected art connoisseur, will be opening the exhibition.

The exhibition will be on campus until 27 June and can be viewed Mondays to Fridays from 08:00 to 16:00.
