Indian academic to deliver centenary lecture on constitutional provisions pertaining to access and equity in education

The lecture forms part of the University of Pretoria’s Centenary Celebration and the Centenary Lecture Series and is open to the public. It takes place at 11:00 in the SRC Chambers in the UP Conference Centre on the Hatfield Campus.

Dr Kavita A Sharma is the Principal of the Hindu College, University of Delhi, a position she has held for ten years. She has wide teaching experience having also taught in Japan at the Tokyo Women’s Christian College and in Indonesia at the University of Indonesia. Dr Sharma’s professional qualifications include a PhD degree in English from the University of Delhi and a LLM degree from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada.

Dr Sharma has published extensively in her field and has authored numerous books, articles, research articles and book reviews.

Dr Sharma has been the recipient of several fellowships during her career. She was awarded the Fulbright Fellowship New Century Scholar for the year 2007 and 2008 for research on “Higher Education in the 21st Century: Access and Equity”. She was also awarded a fellowship by the Shastri Indo Canadian Institute for Faculty Research Programme in Ottawa in 2002 and 2003 and the Faculty Enrichment Fellowship by the Shastri Indo Canadian Institute in Vancouver in 1991 and1992. In 2005 she received the “Indira Gandi Sadbhavana Award” from the National Integration and Economic Council.

Dr Sharma is a life member of various professional organisations which include the English Association, Indian Association of Canadian Studies, Indian Society for Commonwealth Studies, Indian Law Institute, Association of Comparative Literature and Indian History Congress. She was the Founder President of the Parent’s Forum for Meaningful Education.
