Throughout the year students and staff attended four free workshops presented by professional photographer and Vega lecturer Martin Short. Hands-on camera techniques and photographic skills were reflected in the hundreds of creative submissions by aspiring UP photographers reaching, what Q-Photo CEO Mr Piet Geyser has called, “new heights”.
This year’s winner of the R10 000.00 prize sponsored by Q-Photo as well as an advanced photographic course sponsored by Vega was Johannes Welman with his awesome action shot of a UP athlete. Runners-up with the second prize of R5000.00 was Sabine Petzsch and third prize winner of R2500.00 was Stefan Stolz. The top performer award was won by Jamail Dhulab. All the winning photographs are on exhibition in the UP library foyer.
Next year UP Archives will be celebrating a decade of this very successful collaborative project with Q-Photo and Vega which enhances the photographic skills of both student and staff. The photographs produced are a unique and creative addition to the photographic collection in the Archives, which are used in an array of publication and projects including the recently launched UP board game.
