Prof de la Rey delivered her keynote address to an attentive masses of students and parents packed in the University’s Amphitheatre.
During the briefing sessions by the Vice Chancellor on three different intervals, the University was buzzing with people who were taken on campus tours throughout the day, and many exhibition stands from different faculties as well as from various businesses were also visited. The first year students had an opportunity to interact with various university stakeholders including student leaders, sport representatives, and also representatives from various student residences around the campus.
Welcoming Day at the University of Pretoria would not have been complete without a tree planting ceremony which has been a tradition since 2001. Three indigenous trees called Common Rothmannia (Rothmannia capensis), or Wildekatjiepiering, were planted at the Drama department by the University’s Vice-Chancellor and a top first year BCom Accounting student Ms Nkamogeleng Mahlaela.
