Since the beginning of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, basic sciences and health sciences have been at the forefront of initiatives for understanding and tackling HIV/AIDS. Yet, the HIV epidemic has uncovered the social determinant of health like no other epidemics before it. In fact one of the challenges of effective interventions to curb the HIV epidemic has been its over medicalisation which has often resulted in the abstraction of HIV from its social, economic, political and cultural milieu.
The conference will bring together researchers from all disciplines and people working in the field of HIV/AIDS to discuss and share views and knowledge of the epidemic in a holistic view which take into account the medical and the social aspects of HIV/AIDS.
The details about the workshop are as follows:
Date: 27-28 February 2010.
Time: 08h30
Venue: University of Pretoria Conference Centre, Main Campus (Hatfield)
