The learners could engage with lecturers from all nine faculties and could interact with personnel who answered all their questions regarding study choices, financial assistance and other issues pertaining to general student life.

The University of Pretoria is not only a leader in higher education in South Africa, but is also internationally recognised as a leading research institution. More than 25 000 learners attended the activities which not only showcased the academic programmes, but also the University’s excellence in sports, art and culture, as well as its community participation.

Various faculty deans gave information sessions to the students, and the UP’s Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof Cheryl de la Rey, addressed the prospective students in the University’s amphitheatre. She assured the students that it would be their best choice to study at the University of Pretoria. She also mentioned that the University of Pretoria not only produces the best academics, but also offers excellent skills development and leadership abilities to its graduates.

Prof De la Rey also highlighted that by next year, the University of Pretoria will introduce a two-week programme which will ensure that new students adapt more easily to the educational demands. “The aim of the programme is to ensure that each graduate leaving the University of Pretoria is prepared for the work demands in the 21st century,” said Prof De la Rey.

Learners had an opportunity to participate in a bursary competition which was won by two learners who will each receive bursaries worth R14 000 when they enrol at the University of Pretoria, and comply with the entrance requirements.
