The Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) is an international programme under which member governments offer scholarships and fellowships to citizens of other Commonwealth countries. South Africa is one of the Commonwealth countries, and offers the scholarship through the University of Pretoria.

Annari de Waal who is currently doing her PhD in Economics at the Universityof Pretoria will be doing research for a period of 12 months, which will allow her to complete her degree. Her research topic is “Financial shocks and monetary transmission mechanisms: A panel VAR study of selected inflation-targeting countries”, under the supervision of Prof Reneé van Eyden and Dr Manoel Bittencourt from UP’s Department of Economics. While doing her research at the University of Cambridge, she will be under the supervision of a world-renowned econometric, Prof Hashem Pesaran from the University of Cambridge.

De Waal is elated about her achievement and has acknowledged the fact that she will take time off from teaching so as to focus on her PhD studies, and more importantly, to interact with an econometric of Prof Pesaran’s calibre.
