When handing over the blankets to Jacaranda 94.2, Prof De la Rey pointed out that the contribution is for a worthy cause, motivated by UP's deep commitment to community engagement, particularly in the local community. She said that the participation of all staff members and students in the various activities aimed at building the kind of South Africa that we all want to live in, is at the heart of UP’s community engagement. Prof De la Rey thanked the University’s staff and students, as well as those who took the initiative to ensure that this worthy cause is supported. “It just takes one person to make a huge difference that will have a major ripple effect in changing the lives of the people", she said.

Jacaranda 94.2's Marketing Manager Jenny Griesel also thanked everyone who made contributions. She said the Winter Warmer project has been running for six years at the station and is the kind of project that is very close to their hearts.

Besides being a commercial business, changing people's lives for good and helping the community has always been important to Jacaranda 94.2. Griesel acknowledged the University of Pretoria for being concerned with the welfare of the needy and for its commitment to contribute to making a difference. "To have a magnificent, incredible, world-class organisation like UP to go with us down this road is actually a privilege", said Griesel.

Jacaranda 94.2 has collected more than 80 000 blankets. Various charity organisations such as the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and the Gift of the Givers will be used for distribution to ensure that the blankets are distributed widely across the country and are received by the people who need them most.
