The learners engaged with lecturers from all nine faculties and could interact with personnel who answered all their questions regarding study choices, financial assistance and other issues pertaining to general student life.
Various faculty deans gave information sessions for the benefit of students, and UP’s Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof Cheryl de la Rey, addressed prospective students in the University’s amphitheatre where she assured them that it would be in their best interest to study at the University of Pretoria.
Prof De la Rey urged parents and school learners to consider critical factors when deciding on the university that is most suitable for their particular academic purposes. She mentioned the following four fundamental priorities: quality, relevance, diversity and sustainability, which are the indispensable pillars on which the University of Pretoria relies for support as an institute of higher learning.
“Quality is the fundamental differentiator between one university and another, and is therefore a first and foremost priority at the University of Pretoria. The University of Pretoria is also committed to ensure that the student’s qualification stays relevant to the rapidly changing world”, said Prof De la Rey.
Prof De la Rey said the University of Pretoria does not only promote excellence in the narrow academic sense. She said the University promotes the holistic approach in developing its students, which is evident in the sport achievements by the UP students as well as in other creative fields.
“What we would like to do is to assure that by coming to the University of Pretoria, you are making the right decision”, concluded Prof De la Rey.
