Ajax Cape Town were dominant in the first 30 minutes of the first half. AmaTuks launched a few sporadic attacks until getting their first chance at goal 15 minutes into the game. AmaTuks were awarded a free kick in front of the Urban Warriors’ penalty box taken by Ramahlwe Mphahlele. He picked Niang in the box, whose header went straight into the hands of the Ajax goalkeeper, Sander Westerveld.
A few minutes later, the Urban Warriors got their first real chance at goal in the 25th minute when Koen van der Laak found himself unmarked in front of the box. However, his shot sailed safely over the AmaTuks crossbar.
The home side continued to push forward and apply more pressure on the AmaTuks’ defence. In the 28th minute of the game, AmaTuks lost possession of the ball in their own half and a long pass by Matthew Booth found Karma Billiat unmarked on the left flank. Billiat used the opportunity effectively by crossing the ball across the goal mouth to find Lebogang Manyama unmarked in the AmaTuks penalty box. Manyama struck the ball confidently into the AmaTuks goals to make it 1–0 in favour of the home side.
Despite being under pressure by the home side’s forays into their half, AmaTuks kept probing Ajax defenses. Just a few minutes before half time, AmaTuks drew level after some excellent play by Aubrey Ngoma whose shot went high into the top right corner of Ajax’s goals. The teams went into half time with the score level at 1–1.
The Urban Warriors came into the second half looking for goals. In the 68th minute, Ajax almost scored when their star forward Billiat evaded the AmaTuks defence, only to be denied a goal when his shot sailed straight into the AmaTuks keeper's hands.
The match became a see-saw battle until AmaTuks took the lead in the 74th minute when the Urban Warrior’s defence were not able to clear the ball from their own penalty area. Consequently, Mame Niang found himself in a good position to strike the ball firmly into the Ajax goal, making the score 2–1 in favour of AmaTuks.
The goal appeared to spur AmaTuks's efforts, while Ajax grew increasingly demoralised. AmaTuks extended the lead in the 77th minute through a Thabo Mosadi cross from the right flank which Aubrey Ngoma handsomely headed, passing the Ajax goalkeeper to make the score 3–1.
AmaTuks kept piling on the pressure. Ngoma outpaced the Ajax defenders to calmly strike the ball past the Ajax goalkeeper into the net for his hat trick, increasing AmaTuks’s lead to 4–1.
With the writing on the wall for Ajax Cape Town, Ngoma calmly slotted the fifth goal for AmaTuks – his fourth goal of the match – giving AmaTuks a comprehensive 5–1 win.
