The Groenkloof, Prinshof and Mamelodi Campuses also received visitors on Saturday. On the Prinshof and Groenkloof campuses the deans of the respective faculties addressed new students, friends and family. On the Hatfield Campus visitors could explore the campus, interact with staff, senior students and representatives of Hatfield businesses.

By the end of 2012 the University had received more than 36 000 applications for some 10 000 first-year places available. Among the new first-year students are a larger group of medical and veterinary science students to fulfil South Africa’s growing need for health care practitioners.

The first-year intake of medical students increased from 240 to 300 while the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences took in 40 more students. In 2014 the Faculty will also increase its intake of second-year BVSc students to bring the total to 190 students in the second year.
