Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (1918 - 2013)

Posted on December 06, 2013

Former President Mandela was South Africa’s greatest leader, who united us as a nation.

In 1997, the University awarded an honorary doctorate in law (LLD ) to then President Mandela in recognition of his contribution to justice, peace, reconciliation and democracy in South Africa and for his exemplary contribution to the well-being of the country and humankind.

We will sorely miss Madiba. His Legacy will continue to be an inspiration to us all. The essence of his humanity, dignity, selflessness and fairness will live on and unite us as a diverse community of staff and students at Tuks.

One of the most powerful messages Madiba gave us is that “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”.

This message will continue to inspire me in my role as a leader, as I trust it will similarly inspire the staff and students of our university.
